Christmas 2011 New Ornaments

Today the girls and I went to Macy's and they each got to pick their own ornament. And there was a 60% sale to boot.

Evie got a sparkly alligator with a head and tail that move.

Lottie got a soft, baby bird nest with a Mama bird scene.

This was the second year tradition for the three of us. One day I hope that the girls will pass on the ornaments collected though the years to their families.

yum yum black raspberry ice cream treat in our new ice cream bowls

It's been an ice cream weekend it seems. The winner: black raspberry. And we bought some really awesome ice cream bowls to boot.

The biggest paper airplane the world!

Seriously, I think I might have to enter Evie's latest paper airplane creation into submission for Guinness World Records. As you can see the paper airplane is bigger than Lottie and nearly that of Evie, too. Lately Evie has been making lots of really creative things out of paper, i.e. oragami, tiny to huge paper airplanes and cups, etc. Evie really has been a buzz with paper airplanes mostly. Just this weekend she got herself a book (thank you Aunt Katie) about how to make and fly paper airplanes. The massive creation pictured was test piloted by the three of us and with a bit more stability will make a spectacular flyer :)

Girls having a yummy treat!

The girls and I went to the local Farmer's Market this morning. Evie picked a chocolate covered and filled Twinkie. A funny conversatation ensued at the fact that the little people don't know a thing about Twinkies. mmm, I can say that it was good. Lottie had a milk and white chocolate loli with some unfamiliar Japanese animated character. Me I had coffee as nobody here brews with loose leaf tea.

We're going to get some fruit and veggies next but the treat was first of course.

Watch for the crazy eyes

Lottie whilst watching the egg (plastic type) throwing contest.

Evie and Lottie fishing expedition

Fish score:

Evie 3 (Brim and one got away)
Lottie 1
Daddy 1 (Bass and boy were they surprised when the fish flopped on the dock).

Gotta say Evie has a good casting arm about her and Lottie showed a great deal of patience waiting on the fish to bite. Next time we bring more bread.

All together it was a whole lotta fun. It certainly was hot. Afterwards we went straight to the pool, ahhhh!

Evie's 1st Communion

This morning Evie had her 1st Communion at St. Margaret Mary. She was all together beautiful. The service was sweet. The best part of the morning (besides the obvious) was when she told me in my ear how very happy she is today. I am confident she knows that today Christ has entered into her life in a bigger way.

Evie got all A's on her report card

Hooray for Evie!

All A's and O's (outstanding) this quarter (and last too). Time to go get some ice cream.

We finally finished reading Strawberry Girl

Ah, it was a delight. Now that I think about it the time it took Evie and I to finish reading Strawberry Girl by Lois Lenski (about 170 pages), it was worth the while. We've been reading through many great books like Ivy & Bean together at about the same length but in less time. Maybe we wanted time to really absorb all of the old Florida life, family and adventure that we could.

Although it might have been the deep Southern drawls that I had to work through that made up most of the story. Evie and I laughed so many times at my attempts to impersonate a Florida "cracker" (still hard even with me being a native myself) from the olden days. Ever since we read The Secret River by Marjorie Kinnan Rawling I've been trying to find more children's stories for Evie that take place in old Florida. Evie was mesmerized when we read The Secret River together.

I found Strawberry Girl at our local library and I felt upon sight that it fit Evie's love for children's stories from the 1940-50's. It was also came highly recommended by a librarian friend, amongst others like Betsy & Tacy. I truly enjoy these reading times with Evie and I'm confident that she'll remember each one for a long time to come.

Dads Can Do Anything

Albeit a first, it's true we're (Dads) even nail salon tech when required. Lottie had me apply a nice shade of orange on one hand and deep pink on the other. We'll try to do toes in the morning ;)

Coming Home

Ahhh, there's nothing like having the girls come home after being apart for so long. We come in the door, the girls instantly go into playmode, I put Craig Armstrong on random, I cook dinner and the world is perfect. Any pain or worry gone away. Did I say how great it is to have my sweet girls home with me :)
